If you’re serious about SEO and digital marketing, Semrush has likely caught your attention.
But with multiple plans, you may be wondering which one is right for your needs.
As someone who has used many different SEO tools, Semrush remains my go-to for crafting client reports and fine-tuning websites.
It’s a powerhouse that excels in keyword research, rank tracking, competitor analysis, and site optimization—all of which are essential for gaining a competitive edge.
But how much does Semrush cost, and which plan should you choose?
Whether you’re flying solo or managing a full-scale enterprise, I’ll guide you to the ideal plan for your goals. I’ve analyzed everything from core features to add-on pricing to give you the complete picture.
Let’s start with an overview of Semrush’s three subscriptions.
Semrush Subscription Pricing Plans
Semrush offers three core subscription plans: Pro, Guru, and Business.
Each plan meets the needs of different users. So, the right one for you depends on where you are in your digital marketing journey.
Here’s a quick overview:
Plan | Price (Monthly) | Features | Ideal for |
Pro | $139.95 | Includes core features like keyword tracking, competitor analysis, and limited reporting | Freelancers or startups new to SEO |
Guru | $249.95 | Includes everything in Pro, plus content marketing tools, historical data, and extended limits | SMBs scaling their SEO and content marketing efforts |
Business | $499.95 | Includes all Guru features, plus API access, advanced reporting, and higher limits for larger SEO operations | Enterprises and agencies managing multiple accounts |
Pro
The Pro plan is Semrush’s entry-level subscription option, costing $139.95/month or $117.33/month billed annually.
You’ll get access to essential tools like keyword research, competitor analysis, site audits, and rank tracking, with enough daily limits for smaller-scale projects.
With the Pro plan, you’ll be able to:
- Create five projects
- Track up to 500 keywords
- View 10,000 results per report
The Pro plan best suits smaller businesses, startups, and freelancers. This is because you likely won’t need the advanced tools and higher reporting limits of the Guru or Business plans.
Guru
The Guru plan offers 3x more of everything in the Pro plan. Create 15 projects, track 1,500 keywords, and view 30,000 results per report.
It costs $249.95/month or $208.33 when billed annually.
Beyond its increased limits, the Guru plan also includes:
- The Content Marketing Toolkit, which includes tools for content gap analysis, topic research, content briefs, and more
- Historical data to analyze long-term trends
- Integration with Looker Studio, making it easy to build custom dashboards with Semrush data
The Guru plan is ideal for small-to-medium-sized businesses, content marketers, and growing agencies. It’s for anyone who wants to scale their SEO and content marketing.
If your needs go beyond the basics but you’re not yet running large-scale campaigns, the Guru plan offers a decent selection of features. For this, Semrush’s cost is quite fair.
Business
The Business plan is the ultimate SEO tool for enterprises and agencies managing large-scale SEO projects. This plan from Semrush costs $499.95/month or $416.66/month when billed annually.
The Business plan includes everything in the Guru plan, plus:
- 40 projects
- 5,000 keyword tracking slots
- 50,000 results per report
- API access for seamless data integration
- White-label reports for client deliverables
- PLA analytics to monitor and optimize product listing ads
- Share of voice metrics
The Business plan is perfect for larger agencies where clients need detailed, customized SEO reporting.
Its API integration saves hours of manual work each week by pulling Semrush data directly into your dashboards.
The plan also features white-label reporting. This enables you to deliver professional, customized reports that impress enterprise clients.
Is Semrush Free?
Yes, Semrush offers a free plan, but it has limitations that make it impractical for more advanced or ongoing SEO work.
For example:
- Daily search queries: You’re limited to 10 requests per day across tools like the Keyword Magic Tool and Domain Overview
- Reports: Only 10 results per query are visible, which means you won’t be able to access the platform’s full data depth
- Keyword tracking: You can track just 10 keywords
- Site Audit: Audits are capped at 100 pages
I’d consider it a sneak peek into what the platform can do. It’s most useful for exploring the tool’s main features or can be a good starting point if you’re brand new to SEO.
If you want to see Semrush’s full offerings for free, there’s a 14-day free trial available for the Pro and Guru plans.
I used this trial to test the premium features before committing to a paid subscription.
Otherwise, there are Semrush alternatives that are free to use, but they don’t offer nearly the same functionality. Check out our reviews of Semrush vs. Ahrefs or Semrush vs. Moz to see what I mean.
How Much Do Semrush Add-Ons Cost?
Semrush’s flexibility doesn’t stop at its core plans. You can boost your subscription features with add-ons tailored to your marketing needs. However, these will add to Semrush’s cost.
Additional Users
The standard Semrush plans come with one user. If you’re working with a team, however, it’s essential to provide unique login credentials for each member who needs access.
Fortunately, you can add any number of users to your subscription, which increases the Semrush cost. The cost for extra users varies slightly depending on your Semrush plan.
Here’s the breakdown:
- Pro: $45 per additional user per month
- Guru: $80 per additional user per month
- Business: $100 per additional user per month
This add-on is perfect for SEO teams with multiple members needing access to Semrush tools.
For example, a digital marketing agency working on numerous projects could assign separate logins to their SEO specialist, content manager, and PPC strategist.
This ensures each team member can access the necessary tools without disrupting others’ workflows.
Semrush Local
Semrush Local is an add-on with three pricing tiers: Local Essentials, Local Advanced, and Local Light.
Local Essentials costs an additional $50/month, Local Advanced $60/month, and Local Light $30/month.
The pricing above is per location. So, if you have two locations and choose Local Essentials, you’d pay an additional $100 per month.
All tiers provide an impressive suite of features designed to boost your local visibility.
These include:
- Optimizing your Google Business Profile
- Reading and responding to reviews across multiple sites
- Monitoring your map rankings
Semrush Local is particularly beneficial for local businesses targeting specific geographic regions.
For example, a small chain of coffee shops could use the Local Essentials plan to manage its Google Business Profiles. This ensures accurate and consistent information across all locations.
The Local Advanced plan offers additional value if you need more robust features.
This tier includes access to the Listing Management API. It’s particularly useful if you have multiple locations requiring automated updates across directories.
It also provides perks like an extended Map Rank Tracker package and advanced Review Management features.
This makes it ideal for staying ahead of local competition and streamlining your operations.
Semrush .Trends
The Semrush .Trends add-on is a powerful tool for market research and competitive analysis.
It provides access to insights like Traffic Analytics and Market Explorer. This helps you uncover growth opportunities and identify trends before your competitors.
The .Trends add-on includes:
- Website mobile and desktop traffic data
- Key traffic channels (search, ads, email, etc.)
- Daily, weekly, and monthly traffic data
- Insights from 190+ countries and regions
- 24/7 competitor tracking
This add-on is ideal for teams managing high-stakes marketing strategies where understanding market dynamics is crucial.
For example, a marketing agency could use .Trends data to prepare a pitch for a client in a competitive industry. It could highlight untapped opportunities and show how their campaigns could beat rivals.
The detailed website traffic analysis and competitor insights enable the agency to build a compelling, data-driven strategy that sets it apart.
Starting at $289/month, .Trends is an invaluable resource to help you make decisions based on real-time data.
Semrush Social Media Management
If your marketing strategy includes social media, Semrush offers two social media management add-ons: Semrush Social and Social Content AI.
Both Semrush Social and Social Content AI can be used as stand-alone solutions. This means you don’t need a core Semrush subscription to purchase and use them—either can be bought separately.
This add-on is designed for creating, scheduling, and managing social media posts. It streamlines tasks so marketers can spend more time strategizing and less time toggling between platforms.
For example, let’s say you’re a small business owner managing multiple social accounts.
You can use Semrush Social to schedule posts in advance for consistent engagement without the daily hassle.
Social Content AI is centered on content creation. This helps you generate relevant post ideas that align with your brand’s voice and aesthetic.
Create text, images, and even videos to maintain a polished and professional social presence.
For instance, a marketing team could use Social Content AI to draft visuals and captions for seasonal promotions or events.
Each add-on tackles a different part of the social media workflow. But together, they create a complete social media management system.
At $29.99/month each, they offer significant value, especially if you’re seeking to streamline your social media efforts and enhance your online presence.
ImpactHero
ImpactHero is an AI-driven add-on designed specifically for content marketers seeking to optimize their strategies based on the stages of the buyer journey.
It analyzes your content to provide actionable insights on better engaging your audience and driving them toward conversion.
This add-on is particularly valuable for businesses with content-focused marketing strategies.
For instance, a SaaS company could use ImpactHero to improve its blog and resource library. It would identify which content resonates most with prospects in the awareness, consideration, and decision-making stages.
So, you can choose the content types and channels that will have the best results.
Starting at $200/month, ImpactHero’s pricing is determined by the number of campaigns you purchase.
For teams focused on content marketing, this add-on can boost effectiveness. It aligns content with your audience’s needs at every stage.
Semrush API
Semrush offers the following API options:
- Standard API
- .Trends API
- Listing Management API
Standard API
To access the Standard API, you’ll first need to upgrade to the Business plan.
When considering Semrush API pricing, keep in mind that the Business plan is designed for users who need advanced features—including API access—and is priced accordingly.
You can then buy API units and generate an API key. But remember, the API units are a separate cost from the Business subscription.
.Trends API
The .Trends API can be accessed only after you have upgraded to any paid Semrush plan.
Once you’ve upgraded, your API key will be available in the API Units tab on the Subscription info page. But to use it in requests, you must buy the API units first.
Listing Management API
The Listing Management API works slightly differently from the others. You don’t need to buy API units separately.
Instead, all you will need to access the Listing Management API is the Semrush Local Advanced add-on (which is $60/month).
Is Semrush’s Cost Worth It?
If you’re an SEO or marketing professional, the answer is a resounding yes.
Semrush’s price is justified by its ability to save time, provide actionable insights, and scale up to meet your needs.
While there are cheaper alternatives, none match Semrush’s breadth of features and value.
I go into way more depth in my Semrush review, but it’s hard to find a tool that offers so much in one place. This is especially true if you’re serious about SEO and digital marketing.
