Canary Sites help show how specific tactics rise and fall as SERPs change…

When algorithm updates hit, it’s hard to know what’s happening. Most of the early reactions are guesswork, and people often jump to conclusions.

To combat this, we’re continually building out sites that are intended to act as the canary in the coal mine. If that phrase is new to you, here’s what it means:

An allusion to caged canaries (birds) that miners would carry down into the mine tunnels with them. If dangerous gases such as carbon monoxide collected in the mine, the gases would kill the canary before killing the miners, thus providing a warning to exit the tunnels immediately.

These sites all lean on one thing quite heavily. This specific item might be guest post links, content “hidden” in tabs, links from shady PBNs, etc. The intent is to create semi-controlled pockets where we can watch how certain tactics fare as algorithm changes hit.
